  4.     The Batman summer superhype has caught up with Las Cruces
  5. police chief Ron Axtell. Warner Communications demanded that
  6. the city stop using the Batman logo on its ambulance-like
  7. BATmobile. The vehicle is used to catch drunk drivers, and its
  8. popularized name really stands for the breath alcohol-testing
  9. unit.

  11.     Axtell did not mind losing his BATmobile. "I'm sure it's
  12. not going to affect our arrests," he said. "The people we put
  13. in it probably don't even know there's a bat on it, they're so
  14. drunk."

  16.     But Axtell was no joker. He cut a deal and got Warner to
  17. donate an official Batman jacket as a prize in a city-wide
  18. contest to come up with a new name for the five-year-old
  19. program.

  21.     It's all more hype for a batty summer.
